Virginia Beach –
On Saturday, August 15, Quincy Carr, Inc. celebrated its first year of providing “quality entertainment and barber services” with a comedy extravaganza. “Crash the Party” brought together an audience of comedy lovers and a spectacular roster of comedians to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the birth of a company… and the realization of a dream.
The show sold out well before the Saturday evening performance time, and although a very few reserved-and-unclaimed tickets remained, even these made their way into the hands of eager fans of funny on-site. One comedy supporter wandering the shopping center saw the marquee and stepped, somewhat uncertainly, up to the ticket booth outside for information… and happened into an impromptu meeting with Quincy himself. “Who is he?” she asked as the funnyman ran by, engaged in one of the many tasks that make detractors say to him, “you’re doing too much.” Grabbed up by QCI’s eager staff and assured of nothing less than an amazing show, she shuttled inside to purchase one of those unclaimed tickets.
As part of their elite ticket package, VIP attendees enjoyed a photo session with performer Quincy Carr, and with the fast and phenomenal work of photographer Vanessa Covington of “Images by Vanessa,” VIPs took home a print autographed by Quincy at the conclusion of the show.
Ready to be entertained, the capacity crowd raised the heat in the lobby as excitement over the show built. The house packed out quickly once the doors opened, with the buzzing audience seating themselves in wide, comfortable chairs at spacious tables. After a loop of spots from local advertisers, “Crash the Party” powered up with a retrospective of the work of Quincy Carr, Inc., while singer Drake reminded the crowd of Quincy’s constant push to be “Successful”. Fans who only know Quincy as a comedian were given an opportunity to see his comedy as part of a larger entity, as images of the extensive body of work of Quincy Carr, Inc., from barbering to performing to public speaking, flashed on the silver screen.
Manager Kevin Gibson of Cinema Café headed up a staff of on-site professionals who ensured a smooth show, from the servers shuttling among the tables to the on-the-mark presentation of the video compilations.
Just after Quincy took the stage, a number of “phone calls” came in from some celebrity congratulators, including the President and little Stewie of Family Guy fame. After a special pop-in guest appearance by Alex Scott, a veteran of HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, comedian Ivan Martin – a Kenny-a.k.a-Bud-from-The Cosby Show lookalike and a regular at the Virginia Beach Funnybone – kept the show rolling with his hilarious observations on relationships and youth. Quincy returned to emcee, and reminded the energized audience of the side-splitting beginnings of his eponymous corporation. When hometown impressionist and comic Jay Pharaoh took to the mike, lampooning current popular music and delivering spot-on impressions of Jay-Z, Smeagol, Denzel Washington, and the late Bernie Mac, the capacity crowd came unglued.
To close this observance of a benchmark of success, Quincy returned to the microphone once more to thank his trusted staff and crew – including his wife, Sabrina (whose pregnancy was announced during the show!) for their help in making the night, and his business, a success. He invited the room to join him in a toast to achievement, and a sense of satisfaction – both in entertainment and celebration – settled over the room, as the peals of raucous laughter had moments before.
